Clouds and Storms You Can Relight

Full cloudscapes and single shapes in clouds, mist wisps to drift through a scene, and a mega tornado for disaster shots. Because they're 3D, they take your scene's lighting and camera moves, so you can circle a storm or drift past a cloudbank.

Which format holds up for clouds?

Start with the Blender project: clouds and mist depend on their shading, and it comes set up. FBX and USD bring the shapes into Cinema 4D, Maya or 3ds Max, where you may need to rebuild the material. GLB, on some models, suits real-time skies in Unreal Engine 5 or Unity.

How to render 3D clouds and mist

Test at low resolution and sample counts first; cloud and mist shading can be slow to render.
Respect the scale: real clouds are enormous, so place them far away and move the camera past them slowly.
Keep mist thin and close to the ground, so it softens the background rather than hiding it.
Match the sky with our aerial HDRIs, and add filmed tornado VFX around the base of the mega tornado.
